The power of place:

An exploration of the role of place in community building led to the founding of the company. It is such a basic premise but sometimes underappreciated. Our initial work in urban neighborhoods trys to answer questions of; where do people spend their time when they are not at work or school? How do we activate community engagement through place? How do we create spaces where people can gather to build community? We do this with a focus on sustainability. Sustainability here refers to both environmental and financial sustainability.  

Our name, Ntontan, comes from the Akan word for web. The Akan people and language are from West Africa. The web is a symbol of wisdom, creativity, and the complexities of life in Akan culture. It also highlights the interconnectedness of our communities.
